Valerie Kanter, DMD, MS

About Dr. Kanter

Dr. Valerie Kanter has a truly unique approach to endodontics—she is at the forefront of applying less-invasive, chemical-free and biological approaches to traditional endodontic therapies such as root canals and microsurgery. A third-generation dentist, Dr. Kanter has a deep understanding of how oral health is connected to overall health, and has built her practice around caring for patients’ holistic well-being.

After graduating with her DMD and MS from the University of Florida College of Dentistry with a specialty in Endodontics, Dr. Kanter moved to Los Angeles and quickly established a reputation for outstanding patient-centered care. Many people fear that a root canal procedure will be painful, but Dr. Kanter has a calming, knowledgeable way of explaining what is happening and uses gentle, pain-free techniques to make sure that patients are comfortable. She says, “I want to relieve patients’ pain, and I want to restore and protect their natural teeth and smile if at all possible.”

Dr. Kanter is passionate about sharing her knowledge with other dental health practitioners and patients, especially regarding biological dental care and advanced regenerative endodontics. She teaches at the prestigious UCLA School of Dentistry and stays at the forefront of the latest research and studies on regenerative endodontics, less invasive laser therapies, and other advances in natural, chemical-free oral health care. She and her professional staff are actively integrating mercury-safe amalgam filling removal techniques, stem cell therapy, regenerative therapies, newest laser technologies, homeopathic protocols, and fluoride-free dentistry into their practice.

I treat one patient at a time, with 100% focus on their overall health and well-being.

Personal Interests

When not working with patients or teaching students, Dr. Kanter loves to spend time in the many beautiful natural areas in and around Los Angeles. She loves to surf, paddleboard, snowboard, and hike. She also practices yoga and meditation.

In the spirit of giving back to her community, Dr. Kanter volunteers regularly with a number of low-cost dental clinics and charities, including Mend Poverty, where she helps show children of all ages how to take care of their teeth and gums. She works with the executive director of the Fluoride Action Network, a nonprofit organization, to broaden awareness about the toxicity of fluoride compounds among citizens, scientists, and policymakers.

FAN is regularly cited by local and international media outlets—including TIME, the New York Times, and the Wall Street Journal—and they work vigilantly to keep up-to-date with new research, as well as government agency actions that could further impact the public’s exposure to fluoride.

MouthPeace is the movement to educate children about the link between oral, systemic, and planetary health. Health is a functional, structural, aesthetic, physiological, psychosocial and spiritual state of well-being. Integration of all these parts is essential for our global community to thrive in peace. To fully embody the concepts of MouthPeace, which is also a non-profit organization, it is crucial that children be given the opportunity to gain a broad perspective based on unbiased, high-quality science and research. This comprehensive initiative will include a series of dynamic school programs, workshops, and awareness campaigns that will evolve through time as children grow older and world health issues change. We will ensure all children have the proper tools instilled in them to care for themselves and their environment, regardless of income or background.
