Integrative Root Canal Treatment

With complete focus, deep experience, and microscopic accuracy, our integrative doctors treat root canals in Los Angeles.

We believe that saving your natural tooth is often the best choice. The fascial tensegrity (tension + integrity) and sensory-motor integration between your teeth, brain, and the muscles in your jaw are lost when a tooth is extracted. Not even the most advanced bridges and implants can truly replace your natural tooth. Whenever possible, we recommend minimally invasive root canal options, such as regenerative techniques, to heal the tooth.

To save your tooth, our doctors use advanced technology in conjunction with holistic therapies and treatments. This is why we call ourselves Integrative Endodontics. Thanks to these techniques, our patients can experience pain relief without materials, medications, or treatments that could compromise their long-term health. Learn about our “wholistic” approach.

If your dentist or your child’s dentist recommends extracting a diseased, cracked, or injured tooth, ask if an endodontist can help save it with a root canal treatment or other procedure. Saving natural teeth is very important for healthy jaw and bite development in children, and these procedures also have a very high rate of success when performed properly.

To ensure the eradication of harmful bacteria during your root canal procedure, our doctors harness the power of light and sound (through the Fotona LightWalker® and GentleWave®). Seeing an endodontist who specializes in these procedures is key, as general dentists may not have the depth of training and experience necessary for an optimal result. Read insights from Dr. Val.

EndOzLase™ by Dr. Val

We perform a scope of endodontic treatments in conjunction with laser and ozone therapy inside the tooth. We call this signature process EndOzLase™, and we use it in both root canal treatment (RCT) and vital pulp therapy (VPT) procedures. We utilize laser treatment to thoroughly open and clean the dentinal tubules. The ozone gas, acting as a final disinfectant, penetrates the dentinal tubules and targets anaerobic bacteria that can not survive in oxygen-rich areas.

Holistic Root Canal Treatment

FAQs

01. What exactly is an endodontist?

When we say “endodontist” we are referring to dentists (noted by “DMD” or “DDS”) who specialize in diagnosing tooth pain, performing root canal treatments, and caring for the tooth’s interior.

Each of our doctors are dentists with specific training in the range of procedures necessary for a successful root canal therapy. With our integrative, whole-body approach, our board-certified endodontists draw on the best of both allopathic and naturopathic techniques and technology.

02. Does root canal treatment hurt?

Commonly referred to as “a root canal,” which is actually the name of the area inside of the tooth that is treated, your root canal treatment/therapy is designed to be pain-free.

Using NuCalm® and MEND™ (a frequency-specific microcurrent device), we facilitate an easy, painless, and even relaxing experience. Our patients report pain-free treatments and minimal pain afterward – which is due, in part, to the holistic methods we include and/or recommend for pain management. Often, laser treatment, which uses light photons to excite solutions inside the root canal, can be used to avoid the need for any drilling. Although drilling is sometimes required, we always use whichever process is the least invasive, quickest, and most effective for your situation. Read about laser endodontics.

03. What does root canal therapy look like at Integrative Endodontics?

Typically, patients visit our office for a consultation, and then schedule their root canal treatment, but when patients need faster treatment in an emergency dental situation, we can do both on the same day. We begin by taking X-ray images or getting current ones from your previous dentist, gathering dental history, and assessing your pain level.

Once the diagnosis is complete, we discuss your options and co-create a treatment plan. Then, we set you up with a variety of amenities to help you relax, creating a zen environment for your procedure. Get to know our integrative therapies.

Usually, we start treatment by using local anesthetic to numb the area. Then, we prepare the tooth for the procedure. Laser treatment, which uses light photons to excite solutions inside the tooth, safely traverses the tooth’s natural anatomy to clean the entire root canal system. Although some drilling and filing may be required, we always use whichever process is the least invasive, quickest, and most effective for your situation.

The details of the procedure are different for each patient, depending on their individual needs. We use minimal instrumentation to complete a conservative shaping of the root canal system throughout the procedure.

Once this is complete, we use the GentleWave® system, using sound energy to flush bacteria from the canal. We follow this up with another round of laser therapy, then fill the area with bioceramic, a mineral-based material that slightly expands to fill all the crevices inside the tooth.

04 After a root canal treatment, what is my recovery time?

In general, our patients are back to normal activities the day of the root canal treatment.

Patients can often brush and eat normally that very same day. Integrative Endodontics does recommend that their patients drink lots of water, eat a whole food diet, eliminate processed/sugary foods, and take supplements to support the healing of the tissue and bone. 05. What are the signs of a root canal infection?

While some root canal inflammation or infections can be completely asymptomatic, there is a wide range of possibilities. Common signs of an infection include:

  • Severe pain when biting or applying any pressure
  • Lasting sensitivity or pain from hot/cold liquids or food
  • Discoloration or darkening of your tooth (our office treats this with single tooth whitening)
  • Swollen or tender gums near the tooth

If you suspect that you or a loved one has an infected root canal, please reach out to our office for a consultation. To help address urgent pain, we can often accommodate emergency dental appointments.
